When dowdy housewife Evelyn Couch meets endearing old lady Ninny Threadgoode, she shares with her an enthralling story of two women. The headstrong Idgie and the gentle Ruth who in the 1930's ran the Whistle Stop Cafe, a railside eatery offering great barbecues, tasty fried green tomatoes, and all kinds of love, laughter and even an occasional murder.
