Synopsis
Essays "in the main chosen from among the papers submitted in a competition conducted by the American psychological association in 1921 for the most meritorious research on the effects of music." The prize-winning study, on The sources and nature of the affective reaction to instrumental music, was submitted by Professor Margaret F. Washburn and G.S. Dickinson. The laboratory reports of the Edison-Carnegie music research, conducted by W.V. Bingham with the assistance of Dr. Max Schoen and Dr. Ester L. Gatewood, are in part also included. cf. Introd
